So, outside of Tucson is this rather amazing
facility. It's got great greenhouse cages up top with
various climates within. And below are all kinds of
pumps and filters and such. The whole thing is air
and water-tight, more or less. It's really quite an
impressive engineering feat.
It is perfectly futuristic. It all looks just like
the space-greenhouses in Silent Running. And indeed,
that's clearly the unspoken reason it was built:
as a prototype space colony.
There are also classrooms and laboratories and
auditoriums outside the sealed space. Dedicated
power buildings.
And it's all empty. The occasional visitor's car
pulls up and takes the tour from a disinterested
guide. Everything is clean and shiny, as if the
labcoats might reappear any moment... but they
haven't.
Oh, did I mention they have a children's aquarium to
visit, in the basement? Yes, just what the town of
Oracle *really* needed, a high desert aquarium.
