No way, man.
Never carry LESS than $20.

You never know when you'll be stuck picking up
the dinner tab or hurtin' for a tank of gas, in
some godforsaken throwback zone that doesn't
_do_ checks and credit.

If you're foolish or unfortunate enough to lose
your wallet, well, the dollars are the least
of your nuisance.

Stash dollars in your automobile.

Once, on a Sunday, I was driving from LA to
Santa Cruz. Left LA with no cash, and a quarter
tank of gas, no cigarettes, no sunglasses, no
credit cards.

Stopped in some lil place past Santa Barbara,
and stuck my ATM card into the ATM. The machine sucked
in the card, and showed no other activity. The
screen still read, "Please Insert Card To
Begin Transaction." I stared hard at the machine.
Several times, I took two steps back, looked
left, looked right, looked behind me, and
took two steps forward.

Pushing all the buttons on the machine had
very little effect. All right, no effect.

I pushed a nasty note written in crayola between
the doors of the bank.

Fortunately, I was able to scrounge up $13.00
in change (pennies, too!) and gas up enough to
go home. But, gosh darn it, I had to skip lunch.
