On CNBC they interviewed a woman who was raised to be a
satanic priestess. She murdered many children ("all the
members of the cult were breeders, plus we got some
homeless and stray children"). When she was young,
her parents would hold her hands around the knife and
help her push; later she was strong enough to do it

As a result of these traumas, her personality fragmented
into many -- hundreds -- of isolated bits, each with
specific memories. On the air, her analyst brough out
the priestess persona, who said that now she felt remorse
and pain at her actions, but before, she didn't: she'd
been created just for that purpose.

And THEN! I switched channels, and saw Petula Clark on
the Ed Sullivan Show!
